Image is a cartoon drawing of a kneeling person wearing a red infinity symbol necklace, hands up as if gesturing for help, their mouth taped over with a piece of blue tape labeled “A$.” Standing beside them is a cartoon caricature of Suzanne Wright, holding a roll of blue tape, patting the kneeling autistic person’s head, and wearing a blue puzzle piece pin. Her speech bubble says, “They’re VOICELESS, the poor things.”

  1. I do not need to be “cured”. My kids do not need to be “cured”. And we ALL have voices.

Sadly, I’ve had to deal with this attitude from other parents of autistic children. Being an Aspie myself, they tend to get the cat’s edge of my tongue about non-verbal doesn’t mean that they’re deaf or don’t WANT to communicate – or be communicated WITH.
